Italian Carved Stone Wellhead
An Istrian stone wellhead with cylindrical shaft and square top, the top with chamfered corners and suspended arches, one arch encompassing an armorial shield, on a circular base comprised of four parts, Italian, probably Venetian, ca. 1575-1590, 28 ins. high, 46.5 ins. wide (separate base is 56 ins. in diameter), with a later arched wrought-iron overthrow with scroll cresting, 78 ins. high, also with later, possibly American, circular cast-iron architectural grill at bottom center of wellhead.
