Small Venetian Wellhead
A carved Istrian stone wellhead with blind arcade, the quadrangular top element with suspended arches, each arch framing a variety of beasts, including one scene depicting a bird attacking its feline-like prey, together with an assembly of stylized vegetal and stiff leaf motifs, the holes on top rim indicating a lost cover, with rope grooves as evidence of years of use, Venetian, mid-15th c. On associated granite block. Wellhead: 25 ins. high, 30 ins. wide. Granite block: 8 ins. high, 26 ins. square.
